TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Shanna Dickenson and Sarah Bowman recorded runner-up finishes Sunday at the SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as the 20th-ranked University of Tennessee women ended up in fourth place with 89 points at Alabama's Sam Bailey Stadium.

LSU walked away with the team trophy by tallying 139.5 points, followed by Arkansas with 110, Georgia with 106 and then UT. Next came South Carolina (84), Florida (82), Auburn (73.5), Kentucky (42), Ole Miss (39), Alabama (23), Mississippi State (19) and Vanderbilt (12).

Just as she had done on Friday in the hammer throw, Dickenson supplied another early-day contribution to the UT cause on Sunday. After registering finishes of 11th and sixth in her first two seasons of SEC discus throw competition, the junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, moved up the ladder to second place in 2007 with a season-best fling of 167 feet, three inches. Her throw of record, which came on attempt four of six, stood just eight inches shy of victor Precious Akins of South Carolina (167-11). Dickenson's classmate at Rocky Top, Amara McKell (Nashville, Tenn.), scored for the first time in SEC Outdoor competition, taking eighth at 146-9 to snag another point for Team Orange.

The Big Orange women cashed in for a haul of 15 points in the 1500-meter run. Bowman, a sophomore from Warrenton, Va., and freshman Rose-Anne Galligan (County Kildare, Ireland) led the charge by finishing second and third, respectively, with times of four minutes, 18.10 seconds, and 4:20.11. Bowman's readout, which pushed her to fourth on UT's all-time performers list, was her collegiate best. Galligan posted a lifetime record. Sophomore Rolanda Bell (Laurelton, N.Y.) also joined the scoring club, as she did in the mile run at SEC Indoors, this time taking eighth in 4:32.19.

The middle distance crew reported back to the track an hour and 15 minutes later to rustle up 10 more points in the 800 meters. Bowman accounted for five of those, taking fourth place in a season-best offering of 2:06.02. Galligan and senior Leslie Treherne (Chesapeake, Va.) were responsible for the rest, placing sixth and seventh, respectively, in 2:09.24 and 2:09.40.

In the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Nia Ali (Philadelphia, Pa.) followed up her victory in the heptathlon on Friday by taking third in that event. Her clocking of 13.25 seconds equaled the career best and SEC hep record she posted at this meet on Thursday. Sophomore Celriece Law (Denver, Colo.) rolled down the track in 13.70 to snag sixth, while sophomore Tiki James (Miami, Fla.) just missed the scoring cut in ninth at 14.00.

In the first running event of the day, Tennessee's 4x100m relay unit churned out a fourth-place finish in a race that featured the top four teams all running under 44 seconds. The quartet of junior Courtney Champion (Lawrenceville, Ga.), freshman Lynne Layne (New Rochelle, N.Y.), junior LaTonya Loche (Bastrop, La.) and junior Cleo Tyson (Huntsville, Texas) ran their first 4x1 race together in a UT season best of 43.98 that makes them the number seven tandem in the nation.

The Lady Vol 4x400m relay unit mirrored that with a fourth-place posting of its own. The quartet of Champion, Tyson, Treherne and Loche wrapped up the meet with its first regional-qualifying time of the season at 3:36.86.

Layne competed in two individual events on the final day. In the 100-meter dash, the rookie shot down the straightaway in 11.54 to place sixth, while in the 200 meters she hit the line at ninth in 23.57.

A day after earning a trip to the regional meet with a career best in the long jump, Law responded on Sunday with a PR and regional-qualifying leap in the triple jump. Her measurement of 41 feet, 8 1/2 inches garnered her sixth place and punched her ticket to the Mideast meet. She stands at second on the UT all-time performers list in that event.

In addition to her assistance on relays, Loche also snared two points in the open 400-meter run. Her trip around the oval in 53.27 resulted in a seventh-place finish and her first-ever individual scoring effort at the SEC Outdoor meet.

Elsewhere, Ali finished just out of the scoring in the high jump, taking ninth at five-feet, seven inches, while McKell was 17th in the javelin throw at 109-7. In the 5000 meters, freshman Jackie Areson (Delray Beach, Fla.) led a group of five Lady Vols by taking 15th in 17:28.46. Senior Felicia Guliford (Gallup, N.M.) was 18th at 17:35.69, Bell was 19th in 17:37.31, freshman Kelly Parrish (Ocala, Fla.) was 21st in 17:42.04 and senior Katie Flaute (Dayton, Ohio) did not finish.

The Lady Vols will be back in action in two weekends, when they travel to Columbia, Mo., to compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional on May 25-26. After adding more qualifiers this weekend, UT now has 16 athletes with 29 scoring opportunities in 15 different events.
