KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Former Lady Vol and four-time U.S. track & field Olympian Joetta Clark Diggs has been named the Garden State Business Woman of the Year for the Non-Profit category by Garden State Woman magazine. The executive director of the Joetta Clark Diggs Sports Foundation, Clark Diggs was honored at a luncheon on Jan. 23 at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park, N.J.
Clark Diggs, sister of Lady Vol Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach J.J. Clark, competed at the University of Tennessee from 1981-84, earning 15 All-America honors, winning nine NCAA titles and 10 SEC crowns. She also helped the Big Orange women claim the 1981 AIAW Outdoor National Championship, the school's first national title for a women's team, before going on to make four Olympic Teams. She represented the U.S. in Seoul, Barcelona, Atlanta and Sydney, comprising the American 800m contingent in her final season alongside sister Hazel Clark and sister-in-law Jearl Miles Clark, with J.J. coaching the trio.
Proceeds from the awards luncheon will support the Garden State Woman Education Foundation scholarship fund. The fund provides financial support to exceptional, talented, deserving and motivated young women graduating from some of New Jersey's most difficult public high schools and attending four year New Jersey colleges and universities.
