KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee's second NCAA Women's Indoor Track & Field title in five years, as well as Lady Vol event championships in two events, will be among the highlights Monday, March 23, as ESPN2 presents a recap of the 2009 national indoor meet at 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
On March 13-14 in College Station, Texas, the Lady Vols tallied 42 points to hold off runner-up Texas A&M (37) and the rest of the field for the program's third overall national championship. The Big Orange also won the NCAA Indoor meet in 2005 and the AIAW Outdoor title in 1981.
Among the highlights for UT at the meet were the distance medley relay claiming victory with a world-record time of 10:50.98 and Sarah Bowman winning the mile in a meet-record clocking of 4:29.72. Other school records came from Celriece Law (2nd, 60m hurdles, 8.04) and Annie Alexander (3rd, shot put, 57-2). Phoebe Wright, meanwhile, overcame a sinus infection to finish second in the 800 meters at 2:04.28.
