KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The 12th-ranked Lady Vol track & field team will make its third and final home appearance of the season Saturday, as it plays host to the Tennessee Invitational at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium. Field events are slated to begin at 9 a.m., running events commence at 12:30 p.m. and the meet is expected to conclude mid-afternoon. Admission is free.

The 2009 NCAA and SEC Indoor champion UT women will try to take advantage of a final competitive tune-up opportunity, as they begin their postseason run next weekend at the SEC Outdoor Championships in Gainesville, Fla. Among the entrants slated to participate alongside the Big Orange are Bryan, Carson-Newman, East Tennessee State, Kentucky, Lee and Vanderbilt.

"We're just tuning up for the SEC meet," UT Head Coach J.J. Clark said. "We're getting sharp, getting ready and using it as a workout, but at the same time, we want to produce some good marks. We have a quality team, so good things should happen.

"We're excited, because it also gives the seniors a chance to compete at home. Their parents can see them graduate on Friday and compete in their final home meet on Saturday. It's a low key meet, so we're just going to go out there, have fun and get ready for the upcoming SEC and NCAA regional meets."

Making their final home appearances in orange will be seniors Amanda Alexander, Rolanda Bell, Sarah Bowman, Alicia Essex, Celriece Law, Kimarra McDonald and Katie Van Horn. They have helped UT win one NCAA Indoor National Championship (2009) and two SEC Indoor Championships (2007, 2009) and post three top-three SEC finishes and a trio of NCAA top-10 outcomes. The individuals have combined to earn 14 All-America honors and win three event national championships and 12 SEC titles.

Tennessee enters the home meet with four athletes leading events on the SEC top performers list this season and numerous others ranking among the top five. Sophomore Annie Alexander's toss of 188-9 in the discus not only stands above all league foes, but it ranks No. 1 in the NCAA this season. Other conference leaders include Bowman in the 1500m (4:16.47), Law in the 100m hurdles (13.23) and junior Jackie Areson in the 3000m (9:42.29).

What provides a clearer picture of Tennessee's talent and depth across the spectrum of events in 2009, however, is its list of 15 athletes who have qualified for the NCAA Mideast Regional on May 29-30. UT women have produced 21 scoring opportunities in 13 different events for that meet, which will take place at the University of Louisville's Cardinal Park.

The regional qualifying list from Rocky Top includes Amanda Alexander (4x400mR), Annie Alexander (discus, shot put), Areson (1500m, 5000m), Bell (1500m), Bowman (800m, 1500m, 5000m), Essex (pole vault), Ashley Harris (4x100mR), Brittany Jones (4x400mR), Law (100m hurdles, 100m, 4x100mR), Lynne Layne (100m, 200m, LJ, 4x100mR), McDonald (4x400mR), Chanelle Price (800m), Van Horn (5000m), Ellen Wortham (4x100mR) and Phoebe Wright (400m, 800m, 1500m, 4x400mR).

"We just want to stay healthy this weekend and get ready for SECs," Clark said. "We've qualified a lot of people already for the Mideast Regional, but if we could get a couple more from this meet that would be great, too."
