KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The University of Tennessee women's track & field team has moved up two spots and will enter the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Championship meet as the No. 5 team in the nation, according to the new United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I Women's Outdoor Rankings.
The Lady Vols, who won their second NCAA Indoor title in the past five years earlier this season, will try to post their second top-five result since 2005 at the outdoor meet. Tennessee won an AIAW Outdoor National title back in 1981 but is still in search of its first NCAA Outdoor first-place trophy.
Ranking ahead of the Big Orange are indoor runner-up Texas A&M, Oregon, LSU and Arizona State. Florida State, Southern California, Penn State, Baylor and Texas round out the top 10. The 2009 USTFCCCA Division I Rankings are based on the national ranking of athletes on the NCAA Outdoor qualifying list.
Action at the NCAA Championships gets underway on Wednesday morning at John McDonnell Field on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville. Live results and video will be available through links on utladyvols.com. CBS College Sports Network will televise live from 7 to 10 p.m. Eastern Time on Friday, while CBS-TV will carry the meet's final day festivities from 1 to 3 p.m. ET on Saturday.
