UT's Layne in Mexico for NACAC Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- To borrow a phrase made famous by the Beach Boys and surf movies, the University of Tennessee Lady Vols’ endless summer of track & field continues this weekend. Sophomore Lynne Layne will be in Toluca, Mexico, July 18-20, representing the United States at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Under-23 Championships.

A product of New Rochelle, N.Y., Layne was chosen by the U.S. coaching staff as a member of the 4x100-meter relay pool.  If selected to run, the UT speedster would compete on Friday in the semifinals at 12:55 p.m. Eastern Time, and, should the Americans qualify, in the final on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. ET.  The competition will be held at Estadio Universitario at Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México in Toluca.

Layne is treading in the footsteps of UT teammate Cleo Tyson, who competed for the U.S. at the 2006 NACAC U-23 meet in Santo Domingo, D.R. Tyson not only helped the American 4x1 to gold, she also took first in the 100m dash. Layne will be running only on the 4x1 in Toluca.
