For over 17 years, Olson has been playing and coaching volleyball from California to Idaho, Arizona, Virginia, and finally here to Tennessee. His Juniors coaching career began in 2005 in Palm Desert, Calif., where he was the Head Coach of a girl's U16 team at Desert Sports Volleyball Club. He then moved to Virginia where he coached girl's U15-U17 teams at Tidewater Volleyball Club, Beach Elite Volleyball Club, and Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club. He was also highly involved with various high school coaching endeavors including helping lead the Floyd E. Kellam Knight's to a third-straight AAA Virginia High School State Title as Co-Head Coach. Olson earned "Virginia State AAA Coach of the Year" honors in 2012.
While attending California State University, Chico, Olson played on the Men's Club Volleyball Team from 2000-2004. He served as floor captain during his last two years at Chico, and during his senior year he obtained D1-AA All-American honors at Nationals as a middle blocker. Also while in college, Olson was the assistant Coach of the Women's Club Volleyball Team at Chico State for two seasons. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and Marketing.
After college, Olson was selected to play for `Team USA' which comprised of nine other men in the U.S. Virgin Islands Invitational Tournament for two years in a row in 2004 and 2005.
Olson began playing volleyball at Campolindo High School in Moraga, Calif., spending one year on junior varsity and three years on the varsity squad as a middle blocker. During his senior year in 1999, Olson was named captain and led his team to an undefeated regular season in the TCAL, and a win at the North Coast Championships while also receiving 1st-Team All-League and Most Valuable Player honors.
Coach Olson is extremely excited to have the opportunity to be a part of a team and university with a rich tradition of loyalty, hard work, pride, discipline, and sacrifice. He has also obtained his IMPACT Certification.
