KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Three Lady Vols recorded double-digit kills to lead the 15th-ranked Tennessee volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-12, 23-25, 25-19, 25-14) win over Cincinnati on Saturday morning on the second day of action at the Comcast Lady Vol Classic.
"I was really happy with how we played today," said head coach Rob Patrick. "We made some adjustments and learned from some of the things we did yesterday. We were more organized today all-around and obviously that includes our serving. We were still being pretty aggressive with the serve, but we made a couple of adjustments with a couple of our players and they really did a great job with that."
Junior Kelsey Robinson posted her 28th career double-double to pace the Lady Vols (1-1). She led all players with 14 kills while hitting a solid .324 clip and recorded 12 digs for her first double-double of the season. Sophomore Tiffany Baker and senior Leslie Cikra both converted 10 kills. Baker hit .529 in the match with just one error and finished with seven digs.
Baker recorded five kills in the opening set and hit a perfect 1.000 (6-of-6) to guide UT to a quick 25-12 win in the first frame. UT hit .588 as a team and out-dug the Bearcats (0-2), 10-2.
Led by Megan Turner and Amelia Wegman, Cincinnati rebounded in a back-and-forth second set to level the match at one game apiece with a 25-23 victory. Turner and Wegman combined for 11 kills in the frame. Turner finished the match with a team-high 13 kills and .423 hitting percentage.
Robinson had six kills in the third game as the Big Orange closed the set on a 4-0 run to take the game, 25-19, and go up 2-1 in the match. Setters Mary Pollmiller and Bianca Arellano dished out a combined 12 assists in the set.
The Lady Vols jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth behind consecutive kills from Harrison and went on to hit a scorching .571 as a team to win the set by a 25-14 margin and clinch their first win of the season.
