KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee dropped a tough four-set loss to Ole Miss Friday night at Thompson-Boling Arena. Freshman Ashley Mariani paced UT with a team-best 14 kills as she recorded her 15th match this season in double figures for kills. The Lady Vols fall to 9-17 overall and 1-11 in league play, while the Rebels improve to 13-12 on the year with a 3-9 mark in SEC action.
Senior libero Ellen Mullins tallied nine digs, and now has 1,703 career digs, tying her for ninth on the SEC's top-10 all-time career digs chart. The Nashville native now has 542 scoops on the year, moving her into second on UT's single-season digs chart, just 16 shy of Chloe Goldman's record of 568 which she set in 2009.
In the first set, the Lady Vols trailed late, 20-22, as they took a timeout. Out of the break, junior Shealyn Kolosky laid down a kill. She catapulted the Lady Vols on a 5-1 run with two kills and a block assist, as Tennessee wrapped up the opening set with a 25-23 victory. Freshman Jamie Lea had the set-ending kill. The Lady Vols out hit the Ole Miss Rebels .290 to .122 with freshman Ashley Mariani leading the team with five kills.
The Ole Miss Rebels kept game two close with six ties before taking the lead winning the second set, 25-18.
The Rebels continued with the momentum through the third set taking the game, 25-14.
Although the Lady Vols tried to rally back in the fourth set, Ole Miss finished the set, 25-18, taking the match 3-1.
