Tennessee Notes

  • The Lady Vols improved their overall record to 32-2, which ranks as the most wins since 1981 (34-22)
  • The wins over Eastern Kentucky and Texas A&M marked the first time UT has won more than one match in NCAA Tournament action (Tennessee also won two matches at the 1973 AIAW Tournament before the NCAA was formed)
  • Tonight's triumph ran Tennessee's string of victories to 14 matches
  • The 3-1 win vs. A&M was UT's 13th four-game victory of the campaign
  • Tennessee moves to 5-2 against Texas A&M and is 12-26 all-time vs. Big XII schools
  • Tennessee is now 1-1 all-time vs. Big XII schools in NCAA play, having lost to Texas (then a member of the Southwest Conference) during the 1984 tourney
  • UT's 2004 winning percentage (.941) is the best in the history of the program

Texas A&M Notes

  • With the loss, Texas A&M falls to 19-9 on the campaign
  • The Aggies dropped to 20-16 all-time in NCAA Tournament play
  • In 13 NCAA Second Round contests, Texas A&M now owns a record of 5-8
  • The Aggies have never won more than one road contest in any of their 16 NCAA appearances
  • Texas A&M fell to 4-7 on the season vs. ranked teams
  • A&M hit .255 for the season but could muster only a .187 attack percentage vs. Tennessee
  • The Lady Vols also managed to hit .259 for the match against a stingy A&M unit that had allowed a season average of .191
  • Texas A&M entered the match with UT ranked 12th in the nation in blocks per game (3.17 bpg) and had out-blocked its opponents 22 times in its last 27 contests; Tennessee won this evening's battle, 11 to eight in total blocks
