KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee volleyball team added a local product to its 2012 signing class, as Megan Hatcher will continue her volleyball career as a member of the Lady Vols.
"We are very excited on many different levels to have Megan join the Lady Vol family," Tennessee head volleyball coach Rob Patrick said. "We are always going to look at the in-state talent to build our program. With volleyball continuing to evolve and get better not only at the high school level, but at the club level, we are able to do that. She will be joining four other in-state players on our roster and that's exciting."
A senior at the Webb School in Knoxville, Hatcher was a PrepXtra Volleyball First Team selection and named to the All-Knoxville Interscholastic League (KIL) this season as the libero for the Lady Spartans.
Tabbed a co-captain during her senior campaign at Webb, Hatcher tallied 445 digs, 71 points, 17aces and 20 kills this past season. She also passed at an 87 percent rate. For her efforts during the 2011 slate, Hatcher was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers All-State Team.
"Megan brings a tremendous amount of competitiveness and fight," Patrick said. "If you ever watch her play, she's a person who plays with a lot of passion and has a very good skill set to play a defensive specialist or libero for us. She is someone who is already physically strong and will get stronger in our weight program and we are excited about the athleticism she will bring."
Hatcher led the Webb School to a semifinal appearance at the Division II-A state championship a season ago, while the Lady Spartans finished runner-up at state tournament in 2009.
She was also a member of K2 volleyball club in Knoxville.
Hatcher becomes the second commitment for UT's incoming 2012 class, as Bianca Arellano, a setter from Phoenix, Ariz., will also join the Big Orange next season.
