KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Further proving her status as the most highly touted signee in Lady Vol volleyball history, Tiffany Baker has been named the MaxPreps National Player of the Year after leading Hebron High School to a flawless run through the Texas 5A state tournament.
The 6-foot-3 senior middle blocker and outside hitter led Hebron High School to a 44-7 record and the Class 5A state title this past season, recording 661 kills, 296 digs and 276 blocks. A First Team All-State selection, she was also MVP of the Class 5A state tournament and earned state player of the year honors from the Dallas Morning News, the Texas Girls Coaches Association and The Gatorade Company and ESPN Rise.
Baker, who is already the highest-ranked recruit to sign with the University of Tennessee after being rated as the nation's fourth-best prospect by PrepVolleyball.com, also participated in the Under Armour All-America Volleyball Match and Skills Contest over the holiday break.
At the top-level exhibition, which was held in conjunction with the 2010 AVCA Annual Convention at the Municipal Auditorium on Dec. 18 in Kansas City, Mo., Baker helped pace Team Shatter to victory with four kills, two blocks and an ace.
As a member of the Dallas Premier 17-Mizuno club team, Baker finished third in the gold division and claimed all-tournament honors at the 2010 USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships in Reno, Nev. She was also tabbed to the 2010-11 All-Texas Team and the state's "Most Outstanding Hitter" by LoneStarVolleyball.com.
Baker, who signed with the Lady Vols in November, will join the Big Orange program this summer.
