Harrison, Robinson Named Preseason All-SEC
Aug. 7, 2012

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – University of Tennessee volleyball senior DeeDee Harrison and junior Kelsey Robinson both claimed spots on the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

With two honorees, the Lady Vols tie Kentucky and Missouri for the most in the league. Arkansas, Florida and LSU each had one student-athlete named to the team.

“DeeDee and Kelsey have definitely earned their recognition from the previous year’s play,” said head coach Rob Patrick. “We’re excited for those two All-Americans to get back on the court with our other two All-Americans, Leslie Cikra and Mary Pollmiller, to help us be successful in 2012.”

The nine-player squad was voted on by the league’s coaches and ties were not broken. The team features six players who were named All-SEC First or Second Team in 2011.

In a class-by-class breakdown, three seniors and six juniors earned the honor. The Eastern Division had seven representatives, while the Western Division had two selections.

A Nashville, Tenn., native Harrison was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-America Honorable Mention, earned All-SEC First Team honors and was tabbed to the AVCA All-South Region squad in 2011. The 6-foot-3 middle blocker led the league with 136 total blocks and a 1.14 blocks per set average last season.

Robinson, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, returns for her junior campaign after becoming UT’s first SEC Player of the Year in 2011. The Bartlett, Ill., native led the league in kills (561), kills per set (4.52), points (5.15) and double-doubles (23), while rating second in service aces (.35). In addition to player of the year honors, Robinson garnered AVCA Second Team All-America, AVCA All-South Region, First Team All-SEC and Volleyball Magazine Second Team All-America honors.

Harrison and Robinson are two of seven returning starters for the Lady Vols, who kick off their campaign at Thompson-Boling Arena with the Comcast Lady Vol Classic from Aug. 24-25.
