Season Preview with Rob Patrick
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - For just the fourth time in the past two decades, the No. 19 University of Tennessee volleyball team will open the season at home as it kicks off the 2010 campaign by hosting its 29th annual home tournament, now known as the Comcast Lady Vol Classic this weekend. The Big Orange will welcome Xavier, Chattanooga and Virginia Tech to Rocky Top for the two-day competition.
UT will christen the year with a 7 p.m. showdown against the Musketeers on Friday, before squaring off against the Lady Mocs and Hokies the following day at noon and 7 p.m., respectively.
The preseason SEC favorite, Tennessee will be looking to continue its success from last season when it tallied a 24-8 record, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished with a No. 24 national ranking.
Tickets for this weekend's matches will be available for purchase at the northwest corner of the arena on the upper level. General admission tickets are $3, while tickets for children ages 12-and-under are available for only $1. Those same children will also be able to eat for free at the matches on Saturday, as they will receive a voucher for a free hot dog and small soft drink at the gate.
UT Head Coach Rob Patrick, a two-time national coach of the year, will provide a "Chalk Talk" approximately 45 minutes before the final matches each day, offering fans an inside look at the strategies of the game. Each talk will be held in the Ray Mears Room and a ticket will be required for admission.
Parking will be available for free in the G5/G30 lot above the parking garage adjacent to the arena. Fans wishing to follow along with this weekend's matches live
at home can do so by clicking on the "Live Stats" link available at www.UTLadyVols.com. Live video streaming will also be available free of charge for the Lady Vols' match against Virginia Tech at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
