KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee volleyball is four days away from the first match of the season. The countdown continues with senior Whitney Heeres in #TNVB Serves Up.
Heeres, a transfer from Ball State, suffered a shoulder injury during her junior year at Tennessee. As a sophomore at Ball State, Heeres played in 31 matches, earning 14 starts, helping the Cardinals earn an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament in 2011. She recorded double-digit kills in 10 matches, including a 16-kill effort in the win at Ohio (Oct. 14). The 6-foot-2 outside hitter hit .300-or-better in four matches.
During her freshman campaign, the Flushing, Mich., native was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team after helping the Cardinals to a 24-5 (14-2 MAC) record, and the program's eighth MAC regular season title. She played in all 29 matches and 109 sets, earning 20 starts. She led Ball State during league play with a 3.36 kills-per-game average.
