KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After being named to the Cincinnati All-Tournament Team over the weekend, Tennessee volleyball senior Ellen Mullins has been named the Southeastern Conference Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.
Mullins, who started all three matches at the libero position, picks up the award for the fifth time in her career. She averaged a team-best 6.55 digs per set this weekend in a pair of victories and one loss in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In the opening match of the Cincinnati Invitational, Mullins scooped up 31 digs in the Lady Vols' five-set win over Morehead State. That mark is the most in a match in the SEC this season, and is three shy of her career-best (34).
The Nashville native recorded 21 digs in UT's three-set win over Cincinnati, and followed up with a 20-dig performance against Butler on Saturday. Mullins had 20 or more digs in all three matches.
The Lady Vols return to action Thursday at 7 p.m. ET when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn., to take on the Lady Mocs in the Country Inns & Suites Invitational.
