The University of Tennessee volleyball team, in conjunction with the Knoxville affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, will host "Dig for the Cure" Friday, Oct. 3 when the Lady Vols take the floor against Auburn University. Each defensive dig by a Lady Vol in this game will raise money in support of breast cancer research benefiting the Knoxville Affiliate of Susan G. Komen Foundation.

"Dig for the Cure" was established in 2003 in an effort to raise money and awareness for breast cancer research while partnering with volleyball programs across the country. Currently, 156 volleyball programs are involved in this organization and have helped raise over $340,000 for breast cancer research.

"Past experience tells us that Lady Vol fans are always very supportive of our teams and initiatives," said Joan Cronan, women's athletics director. "The 'Think Pink' event last February was extremely successful and we look forward to continuing that success. Cancer touches everyone in one way or another, so we're always looking for new ways to raise awareness."

As part of the event, fans can choose to make a flat donation or to donate per dig for the match. For example, if there were 80 digs total in the match, a $1 pledge per dig would be an $80 donation. Pledge sheets must be submitted by October 3, 2008 at noon.
