KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The initial NCAA Division I Volleyball RPI of the 2010 campaign was released Monday evening and the University of Tennessee found itself in good position as it is ranked No. 9 in the nation. With a record of 12-3 overall and a 4-2 mark in Southeastern Conference action, the Lady Volunteers also moved up one spot to No. 22 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
The NCAA RPI rankings take into account strength of schedule, as well as the team's record both on the road and at home. The Big Orange recently completed a sweep of league foes, taking out Kentucky and Ole Miss in straight sets at Thompson-Boling Arena last week.
Tennessee is one of four SEC teams currently ranked among the top-30 in the nation, behind only No. 1 Florida and ahead of 16th-rated LSU and No. 27 Auburn. The Lady Vols also have wins over No. 14 Florida State, 19th-ranked Oklahoma, 33rd-rated Virginia Tech, No. 40 Kentucky, No. 48 Ole Miss and 52nd-ranked Ohio. Two of their three losses have come to top-10 squads as well, as they have fallen to the top-ranked Gators and No. 10 Northwestern.
The Lady Vol volleyball team will next be in action when it hits the road again this weekend. The Big Orange will first travel to square off with Arkansas at 8 p.m. ET on Friday, Oct. 8, in Fayetteville, Ark., before making the trek to Baton Rouge for a 2:30 p.m. ET showdown against No. 16 LSU two days later. The contest against the Razorbacks will be televised live on Cox Sports Television.
