BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - One day after being honored at Thompson-Boling Arena for Senior Day, senior right side hitter Leslie Cikra has been named the Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Week after helping the Lady Vol volleyball team extend its winning streak to seven matches.
The honor is Cikra's second offensive player of the week award of the 2012 campaign, as the Lady Vols posted a five-set win over Auburn and a straight-set victory over LSU to improve to 21-6 overall and 14-4 in SEC action this past weekend.
The Chagrin Falls, Ohio, native averaged 4.62 kills per game and hit a scorching .408 for the week, committing just eight errors on 71 swings. She also added seven digs and a pair of blocks.
On Friday against Auburn, Cikra put down half of her 40 swings and committed just three hitting errors en route to a career-high tying 20-kill performance. The 6-foot-4 right side hitter posted a .425 attacking clip and tied a career best with five digs against the Tigers. She also added two blocks, including one solo stuff.
In Sunday's Senior Day matchup against LSU, Cikra led the match with 17 kills on 31 swings. She committed just five errors to hit .387 against the Tigers. On the weekend, Cikra bested her season averages in kills per set, hitting percentage, digs per set and points per set. She recorded 4.81 points per game this week.
Cikra currently ranks 17th in the SEC in hitting percentage with a .281 clip. The senior also ranks in the top 20 in blocks per set in the league, currently sitting in 18th with an average of 0.80 rejections per game. Cikra has guided the Lady Vols to rank third in the SEC in hitting percentage (.251) and kills per set (14.18) and second in blocks (2.64/Set).
It's the seventh SEC weekly award for the Big Orange this season, including the third offensive player of the week honor. In addition to Cikra's two offensive honors, junior outside hitter Kelsey Robinson also earned one offensive player of the week award. Defensively, UT has four weekly awards. Ellen Mullins has three of those and redshirt senior DeeDee Harrison has one.
The Orange and White makes a quick turnaround to conclude the regular season with a pair of home matches this week. Tennessee looks for season sweeps of SEC West Champion Texas A&M (22-5, 14-4) and Mississippi State (4-23, 0-18) on Wednesday and Friday, respectively. First serve at Thompson-Boling Arena is slated for 7 p.m. for both matchups.
