KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- After capping off her final season with Tennessee by setting six program records, senior Ellen Mullins was honored with All-Southeast Region accolades by the American Volleyball Coaches Association on Tuesday afternoon.
Mullins garnered the honors for the second-straight season after she was named an All-South Region Honorable Mention last year, as well as picked up AVCA All-American Honorable Mention accolades.
The Nashville native did a number on the Tennessee volleyball record books this season. She racked up 640 digs in 32 matches, setting the Tennessee record for most digs in a single season. She averaged 5.61 scoops per set, earning her the top spot in program history with that mark, while she also became the Big Orange leader in career digs as she scooped up 1,801 digs through her four years donning the Orange & White, shattering Chloe Goldman's previous record of 1,755 career digs.
During the 25-point rally scoring era, Mullins also set the top marks for most digs in five sets, four sets and three sets this season. She racked up 37 digs in five sets against Jacksonville State on Sept. 21. She scooped up 32 balls in a four-set match against Arkansas on Oct. 13, and had 28 digs in three sets against Chattanooga on Sept. 5. For her career, she averaged 4.19 digs per set, a mark that is second in school history.
In SEC action, Mullins averaged 5.05 digs per set, which was second-best among league players. She also ranked seventh in the nation at 5.61 digs per set.
The 5-foot-6 captain also skyrocketed up the league's record book as her career digs tally inks her fifth in the SEC all-time record book, and her 640 digs this season notch her third on the league's all-time single-season digs chart.
Mullins was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions during the 2013 season and seven through her career.
The SEC had 14 student-athletes named to the Southeast Region Team and 13 on the South Region Team. Missouri's Carly Kan was named the Southeast Region's Freshman of the Year and the Tigers' coach Wayne Kreklow was recognized as Coach of the Year in the Southeast. LSU's Briana Holman was named the South Region's Freshman of the Year while Alabama's head coach Edwin Allen earned South Region Coach of the Year.
