KNOXVILLE, Tenn. --

All-Southeastern Conference and NCAA All-South Region performer Felicia Guliford grabbed cross country MVP honors Monday night, as the University of Tennessee women's cross country and track & field teams held their annual banquet at the UT Boathouse on Fort Loudoun Lake.

Guliford, a junior from Gallup, N.M., picked up the cross country MVP accolades after pacing the Lady Vols to their third straight SEC title and their fourth consecutive NCAA South Regional crown this fall. Her runner-up outcome at the conference meet and fifth-place performance at the regional race spurred the Big Orange women to a school-best 125-32 record during the 2005 campaign. Guliford was also the choice for indoor track's Most Improved award after earning All-America acclaim on UT's distance medley relay and pulling off a double victory in the 3000 and 5000 meters at the 2005 SEC Indoor Championships.

Classmate Katie Flaute, meanwhile, grabbed the Scholar Award for her academic prowess and was chosen as the cross country team's Most Improved after a season in which she achieved both All-SEC and NCAA All-South Region status while dramatically improving her times. In the classroom, the Dayton, Ohio, native garnered first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV accolades and was a member of the SEC and Lady Vol Academic Honor Rolls.

With former Lady Vol national champion, 2004 Olympic gold medallist and 2005 World Championship gold medallist Dee Dee Trotter on hand as the evening.s speaker, Head Coach J.J. Clark also honored a string of other Lady Vols. Those student-athletes, who are listed below, helped the track & field team claim both the NCAA and SEC Indoor Championships a year ago and lifted the cross country team to its third straight SEC crown and fourth consecutive NCAA South Region trophy during the fall.
