The University of Tennessee Lady Vol cross country team has high expectations for 2002 thanks to a boost from an unexpected school and a familiar name in the college track and field world.

On March 23, 2002 former Florida cross country coach J.J. Clark was announced as the new coach for the Lady Vols. Clark guided the Gators to a pair of SEC championships in 1996 and '97.

"Hopefully, we'll be in a position to make it to make the NCAA meet," Clark said. "We're looking to move forward and make a run at the top."

Running to the top flows through Clark's bloodline. His sister Joetta Clark was a four-time Olympian and Hall-of-Fame runner for UT.

"(Joetta) was elated that I am here to help the program move forward," Clark said. "(Because of her), I grew aware of the Lady Vols' commitment to women's athletics."
