As the UT-Knoxville campus continues to grow as a research and teaching institution, the need for academic space has become increasingly important. In an effort to address this issue, the University Master Plan has called for the antiquated Stokely Athletic Center (SAC) to be demolished in order to allow for an academic facility to be built in its place.
As a result, the University of Tennessee Athletic Department (UTAD) must relocate approximately 110 coaches and administrators. The construction of the Football Training Center will allow for the current football offices in the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center to be converted for use by those coaches and department personnel who currently occupy SAC. In addition, all Lady Vol programs will have use of the existing offices, weight room and training rooms in the Neyland-Thompson Sports Center. The construction of the Football Training Center will allow for the majority of the athletic department’s personnel to be situated in one facility thus creating greater synergy and cohesion within the department.
With approximately 80% of recruits coming from outside the state of Tennessee, the ability to attract the nation’s finest student-athletes is paramount to the success of the Volunteer football program. The Football Training Center will serve as an investment in the future of Tennessee Football and provide our coaches and student-athletes with the tools necessary to compete at championship levels in the SEC and NCAA.
