The Tennessee men's tennis team returns to action Friday, Oct. 29, when they host the UT Fall Classic. The Vols are joined in the tournament by Kentucky, Middle Tennessee State, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
"It's a good opportunity for the guys to get some quality matches," UT associate head coach Chris Mahony said. "Playing at home is going to be a big advantage for [UT], where you know the conditions and you know the courts."
UT has been led this year by the doubles play of sophomores Ockie Oosthuizen and Ben Rogers. The duo has swept onto the national scene by defeating seven nationally ranked foes. The UT pair also won the doubles flight at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
The last event Tennessee hosted was the Tennessee Men's Pro-Challenger in November of 2002. The Vols are joined in this fall classic by some very talented teams. All five teams sending players ended the season in the final national rankings. Kentucky, Vanderbilt and Virginia all posted a top-20 finish. Eight preseason ranked players could possibly participate led by Kentucky's Jesse Witten who is ranked No. 3.
"We're looking for some positive results from our guys," Mahony said. "With only two tournaments left in the fall it's time for our guys to step up and get some big wins this weekend."
