Hayward Roach, Long-Time UTAD Groundskeeper, Dead at Age 76

Hayward Paul Roach, known during a 35-year UT career as "Peanut," died Tuesday night, March 15, at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center in Knoxville. He was 76, born Aug. 12, 1928. He was on the UTAD grounds crew from 1956-70 and was head groundskeeper from 1971 until his retirement in 1991.
His son, Myron Roach, continues the family tradition as foreman on the UTAD Sports Surface Management team.
Graveside services and internment will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 19, at Greenwood Cemetery, 3500 Tazewell Pike in Knoxville. The family will receive friends Friday, March 18, from 6 - 8 p.m. at Stevens Mortuary, Oglewood Avenue at North Broadway.
