Vols Finish 8th at Fighting Illini Invitational

The Tennessee men???s golf team finished eighth as the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational concluded Monday at Olympia Fields Country Club in Chicago.
The Vols shot a final round 13-over-par 293 and wrapped up their second top-10 finish of the 2007-08 season.
Tennessee finished with a tournament scorecard of 289-303-293--885.
Charlie Ford paced the Vols with a 1-under-par 69 in the third and final round. The senior finished tied for 7th, making this his third top-10 finish in his last five tournaments.
Junior Chris Paisley tied for 18th after firing a 1-over-par 73 in the final round.
Senior Philip Pettitt carded a final round 75 to finish tied for 36th at 14 over par.
Freshman Robin Wingardh shot a 6-over-par 76 in the final round to end with a tournament scorecard of 72-79-76--227 and tied for 46th place.
Redshirt freshman Cameron Lawrence rounded out the Tennessee lineup finishing in a tie for 48th place. He bettered his 54-hole total 15 strokes from the Carpet Capital Collegiate, Sept. 14-16.
Oklahoma State fired a 10-over-par 290 in the final round to hold onto their day-one lead over Texas and win the team title by seven strokes. Texas struggled in the final round, shooting their worst round of the tournament. Indiana finished in third with Florida State and Stanford rounding out the top five.
Rickie Fowler made it a tournament sweep for Oklahoma State as he held off Jorge Campillo of Indiana to win medalist honors. Fowler won by one stroke at 7-under-par for the tournament. Texas???s Charlie Holland finished seven strokes back in third and a pair of Florida State golfer???s Jonas Blixt and Matthew Savage finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Vols travel next to Jonesborough, Tenn., for the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate at The Ridges, Oct. 12-14.
