Sandgren, Brewer Advance in Prequalifying at ITA All-American

Tennessee men's tennis players Matt Brewer and Davey Sandgren won twice Saturday to advance to the final round of prequalifying at the ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
The Vols started strong Saturday morning as they won all three of their second round matches.
Brewer knocked off LSU's Sebastian Carlsson, 6-4, 7-6(6) to advance to the third round. In the next round, the UT junior defeated Dino Bilankov of Minnesota, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Brewer faces Eric Quigley of Kentucky in the final round of prequalifying Sunday. A win puts Brewer in the qualifying round of the championships.
Sandgren came-from-behind to knock off Sebastian Jacques of Virginia Tech to advance. The UT junior dropped the first set but won a second set tiebreaker to force a third and final set. In the final set, Sandgren was able to break the Hokie's serve to advance 1-6, 7-6(6), 6-4. In the third round, the Gallatin, Tenn., native defeated Iowa's Christian Bierich 7-6(5), 6-4. Sandgren battles Zach Nichols of TCU to advance to the qualifying round.
Jeremy Tweedt defeated Xavier's Doug Matthews 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to advance to the third round. In his second match of the day, the UT sophomore fell to Tyler Hochwalt of Florida, 6-2, 6-4.
Bryan Swartz received a bye through the second round and did not begin play Saturday afternoon. In the third round, the UT freshman fell to former Vol Derek Stephens, now of N.C. State, 6-2, 6-1.
The final round of prequalifying is Sunday. The qualifying portion of the tournament begins Monday and runs through Wednesday. The final 64-man main draw begins on Thursday and ends Sunday.
