ITA Regional Features All-SEC Semifinals in Doubles

Two Tennessee doubles teams won matches Sunday to reach the semifinals at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
Senior Davey Sandgren and junior John-Patrick Smith defeated Memphis' Charlie Ramsay and Leon Nasemann 8-2 in the quarterfinals. Junior Boris Conkic and freshman Rhyne Williams earned an 8-6 victory over Louisville's Andrew Carter and Viktor Maksimcuk.
Williams and junior Matteo Fago fell in the singles quarterfinals to ranked opponents.
Sandgren and Smith have won all six matches this season and now have 42 career victories as a pair. Smith improved to 11-0 in doubles, his other additional wins coming with Conkic at the ITA All-American.
They face Brad Cox and Eric Quigley of Kentucky in the semifinals.
Conkic and Williams improved to 5-1 as a pair with Sunday's victory. They play Vanderbilt's Ryan Lipman and Vijay Paul in their semifinal match.
In singles, Williams snapped his eight-match winning streak, losing to No. 70 Quigley 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. In the round of 16, Williams had defeated the highest-ranked opponent of his career in No. 12 Austen Childs of Louisville.
Fago lost his quarterfinals match 6-3, 7-6 to Middle Tennessee State's John Peers, who is ranked No. 58.
The semifinal doubles matches start Monday morning beginning at 9 a.m. The doubles finals begin following the singles championship.
