Former Tennessee golfer Ross McGowan held on to his second-place finish at the Dubai World Championship presented by DP World, and climbed to 12th on the final European Race to Dubai money list.
McGowan, who made his winning breakthrough on the European PGA Tour earlier this year at the Madrid Masters, finished the season with earnings of 1,558,808 Euro ($2,328,984.94). The Englishman currently stands 70th in the official World Golf Rankings.
In Sunday's final round, McGowan shot 68 to finish at 17-under-par 271, six shots behind champion Lee Westwood and two shots ahead of third-place finisher Rory McIlroy from Northern Ireland.
This weekend, another former UT golfer, Charlie Ford, begins play in final qualifying for tour cards on next year's European PGA Tour. The six-rounds-in-six-days event begins Saturday at PGA Golf de Catalunya in Girona, Spain.
Ford advanced through the second qualifying stage at Spain's Hacienda Del Alamo Golf Resort, tying for sixth with a 10-under-par 278.
Recent Vols letterman Chris Paisley is the qualifying tournament's third alternate after shooting a 4-under-par 284 at Hacienda Del Alamo.
