Head of the Charles Regatta
Rowing Off to Good Start in Boston
October 20, 2012 | Rowing
"Part of the thrill of the Head of the Charles is navigating numerous factors which potentially influence a crews progress down the course," head coach Lisa Glenn stated. During the club eight race the oars of the Tennessee shell became intertwined with Yale University causing the team to break for a moment.
Glenn explained, "After only the first of 4 time checkpoints, we were caught up in a minor collision and were forced to stop briefly. At this race, it is impossible to finish in the top 3 if you have had to stop along the way."
UT placed ninth in the club eight category with a time of 17 minutes 17.17 seconds. The shell was coxed by freshman Harper Lucas and including Allison Toth, Liza Rader, Katherine Changes, Victoria Bartell, Paige Austin, Jennifer Bailey, Whitney Wolfe, Sarah McAuliffe. Yale University Crew took the first place slot with a time of 16 minutes 49.64, followed by Holy Cross 17 minutes 02:92.
Only the second race of the fall season the Lady Vols have set high goals for themselves as a team. "We of course set high standards for the Club 8 and I applaud our crew for stepping into big shoes." Glenn said. "In order to fill those shoes we simply cannot let outside factors influence how we tackle our internal goals."
The Lady Vols will return to the Charles River on Sunday where they will compete in the Champ 8 at 3:08 pm.
