UT Announces Fall Rowing Schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - With fall practices well under way and morning rows alongside the sunrise every morning, the Lady Vol Rowing team announced their fall racing schedule on Wednesday.
The Lady Volunteers open up the season close to home in Chattanooga, Tenn., at the Chattanooga Head Race. The regatta will be held in the Tennessee River on October 13.
UT returns to the water less than a week later as they travel to Boston for the Head of the Charles Regatta on October 20-21. Held in the Charles River, this regatta is one of the nation's most revered regattas and is the world's largest annual two-day rowing event.
UT is the 2011 reigning champion of the Club 8+ at the Head of the Charles. Along with the Club 8+, the Lady Vols will also enter their Champ 8+ into the race for gold. Annually, the Head of the Charles Regatta hosts over 600 universities and rowing clubs, representing more than 60 countries.
Following their trip to Boston, the rowing team will have one open week to practice until they return to Chattanooga for the well-known Head of the Hooch Regatta on November 3-4. At the same sight as their season-opener, the Hooch begins upstream in the Tennessee River and ends at Ross's Landing Park in front of the Aquarium in Chattanooga.
Although the rowing NCAA season is in the spring, fall rowing helps in pre-season NCAA rankings in the spring. Races are 5 kilometers long and each boat starts by themselves, only racing the clock.
Following their last race in Chattanooga, the Lady Vols will continue training until they return to the river for their spring season in March.
