17th Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Preview

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - On Friday, the Tennessee men's golf team will be traveling to Jonesborough to tee off at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, hosted by ETSU, at the Blackthorn Club at the Ridges.
The 17th annual Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate is being held at Blackthorn Club at the Ridges. Last year's team champion was the University of Virginia (-22). The individual champion was Virginia Tech's Scott Vincent (-13).
The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate features six top-50 teams from the Golfweek.com Division 1 Poll, which was released on October 7.
Coach Jim Kelson will start junior Chad Merzbacher, freshman Lorenzo Scalise, sophomore Jack Smith, freshman Jordan Gumberg, and sophomore Juan Carlos Serrano Guevara. Junior Michael Nagy will participate as an individual.
The Volunteers head to Jonesborough led by Merzbacher, who has been the team's highest finisher in two of the first three events. The junior posted the team's first top ten finish of the season at the Primland Invitational. Merzbacher carded 69-71-67--207 (-9) to finish in a tie for 10th place.
Freshman Jordan Gumberg will be making his first appearance as a Vol. "I feel really confident entering this event," said Gumberg. "I just want help the team win!" The Florida native finished tied for 10th in the Florida State High School 1A Championship as a senior at University School of NSU in Fort Lauderdale.
As a team, the Vols have won the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate three times, the last being 2009. Former Vol and current Challenge Tour member, Chris Paisley, won the individual title in 2007. Paisley holds the record for best one-round score, a 64 (-8) in the second round of the 2007 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate.
The format will consist of five-man teams, with the best four scores counting toward the daily total. Each group will start on the 1st tee on Friday and Saturday. Sunday's pairings and times will be released Saturday night.
