JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. – Junior Lorenzo Scalise led the way for Tennessee during the first round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate Friday at Blackthorn Country Club. Scalise finished the day tied for sixth on the individual leaderboard after shooting a four-under-par 68.

As a team, the Volunteers sit in 12th place (292, +4) with two rounds left to play this weekend.

Scalise, a native of Milan, Italy, carded a pair of birdies on the front nine Friday. He then posted back-to-back birdies on the first two holes of the back nine before adding another on No. 14 and bogeying No. 16.

Scalise has performed well on this course before. At this same tournament a year ago, he shot a career-low 65 in the second round en route to finishing the event in a tie for 12th place.

Freshman Rhys Nevin-Wharton and sophomore Nicklas Mattner (74, +2) occupy a tie for 47th place heading into Saturday's second round. Freshman Hunter Wolcott shot a four-over par 76, and fellow first-year Vol Brayden Garrison shot 80 on the day.

Competing as an individual Friday, senior Jack Smith posted the second-best score of the day for the Vols. The Knoxville native carded a one-under-par 71, which tied for 22nd.

Missouri's 11-under-par 277 placed the Tigers atop the team leaderboard as the first round concluded.

Saturday's second round starts at 8:30 a.m. ET, with the first Vol slated to tee off at 9:20 a.m. ET.
