2017 Tennessee Volleyball Schedule

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee volleyball team announced its full 2017 season schedule Monday.

The 30-match schedule features two home tournaments and 15 total matches on the checkerboard court at Thompson-Boling Arena.

The season opens with the Tennessee Classic at home Aug. 25-26. First-serve for 2017 is scheduled for Aug. 25 at 7 p.m. against Western Michigan. The Vols return home again for the Rocky Top Invitational to wrap up non-conference play Sept. 15-16 against Marshall, USC Upstate and Furman.

The Vols will challenge a pair of top-15 teams on the road during non-conference play. At the Diet Coke Classic (Sept. 1-2), Tennessee faces Minnesota, a squad than finished the 2016 season ranked third nationally and played its way into the NCAA semifinals. Tennessee takes on co-host Florida State in the FSU-FAMU Classic (Sept. 8-9); the Seminoles were ranked No. 13 and reached the 2016 NCAA round of 16.

Tennessee's SEC play begins Sept. 20 at Arkansas. The 18-match conference slate includes nine home matches.

Tennessee is coming off a 17-14 season and a 7-11, seventh-place finish in the SEC. Middle hitter Erica Treiber earned AVCA All-America honorable mention honors after leading the team in hitting percentage (.348), blocks (107) and aces (21) as a sophomore. Outside hitter Tessa Grubbs was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team thanks to a Tennessee-leading 3.60 kills per set.

In addition to Treiber and Grubbs, top returners include sophomore setter Sedona Hansen, sophomore middle/right side hitter Alyssa Andreno, junior libero/defensive specialist Brooke Schumacher and senior right side hitter Kanisha Jimenez.

Entering his 21st season at Tennessee, Rob Patrick is just three wins away from his 400th as head coach.
