Tennessee Defeats Wofford in Straight Sets

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee volleyball team (2-0) picked up its second win of the season, as the Vols defeated the Wofford Terriers 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) on Saturday at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Erica Treiber and Alyssa Andreno led the team with eight and six kills, respectively. Treiber was essential in closing out the match, as Wofford threatened to push it to a fourth set.
Tennessee (2-0) took the opening set of the match, led by Andreno and Treiber, who continued their hot performance from the opening match. Andreno had four kills and helped the Vols start off fast, using an early 8-2 run to go on to a 25-16 win.
Tennessee continued that fast start with an 11-5 run to open the second set. Wofford (0-2) tried to answer with a run of its own, but in the end, Tennessee proved too much to handle. Treiber continued to shine, leading Tennessee to take the second set 25-17.
Tennessee started slow in the third set, as Wofford jumped out to an early lead, but the Vols came back behind the leadership of Treiber and Andreno.
Sophomore Sedona Hansen's aces in the final set were key in Tennessee taking the set 25-23 and sweeping the match.
Callie Williams had a team high 12 assists for the Vols, while Brooke Schumacher led the way on defense with 16 digs.
Catie Cornister led Wofford with 12 kills and 13.5 points
The Volunteers will face George Washington in the nightcap at 7 p.m., as head coach Rob Patrick goes for his 400th career win.
