KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee soccer team kicked off its 2017 home schedule in shutout fashion with a 3-0 victory over Wright State in an exhibition match Wednesday at Regal Soccer Stadium.
Junior Danielle Marcano got the scoring started midway through the first of three 30-minute periods. Less than two minutes later, junior transfer Khadija Shaw added a second goal off a long cross, and redshirt senior Ariel Kupritz scored before the first intermission to put the Vols comfortably ahead. Redshirt senior Michele Christy recorded an assist on all three goals.
Goalkeeper Shae Yanez stopped two shots in a shutout effort. UT was relentless on offense with 25 shots, as a majority of the play took place near the Wright State goal.
Tennessee will host a meet and greet and intrasquad scrimmage Saturday at Regal Soccer Stadium. Head coach Brian Pensky will introduce the team at 4:45 p.m. and an autograph session will follow. The team will scrimmage at 7 p.m.
