Tennessee Tidbits
- Tennessee's all-time record is 831-37-53. UT ranks ninth all-time in program wins.
- Junior running back John Kelly finished with 19 carries for 141 yards and one touchdown. He now has four 100-yard rushing performances in his career, including two this season.
- Tennessee is now 17-5 over its last 22 games. The Vols entered Saturday at 17-4 in their last 21 games. Only three Power 5 teams have a better record than the Vols over their last 21 games entering Saturday (Alabama, 20-1, Clemson 19-2, Oklahoma 18-3)
- Kickoff was at 3:40 p.m. ET and the temperature was 85 degrees.
Vol Captains/Coin Toss
- The Tennessee team captains for Saturday's game against Florida were redshirt senior defensive lineman Kendal Vickers, senior defensive back Emmanuel Moseley, senior offensive lineman Jashon Robertson and senior tight end Jakob Johnson
- Tennessee won the coin toss and elected to defer to receivee in the second half.
- UT is 1-1 on coin tosses this season.
- In 2016, Tennessee won six out of 15 coin tosses, including six out of 13 pregame. The Vols did not win either of their two coin tosses in overtime. UT was 3-3 in 2016 when winning the pregame coin toss.
Tennessee-Florida Notes
- Saturday's game marked the 47th meeting all-time between Tennessee and Florida. UT is 20-27 all-time against the Gators and 5-14 against UF in Gainesville.
- In 2016, the Vols ended an 11-game losing streak against Florida with a 38-28 comeback win over the Gators at Neyland Stadium.
Josh Smith Makes Presence Felt Early in First Action of 2017
- Senior wide receiver Josh Smith made his first appearance at 6:39 in the first quarter and promptly caught a 10-yard pass from Quinten Dormady for first down on a 3rd-and-6 play.
- Smith missed the first two games of the season with an injury suffered in fall camp.
- Smith entered the season as the most experienced UT wide receiver with 39 appearances and 18 starts. His first down catch was the 59th reception of his career.
Jumper, Taylor Record First Career Sacks in Second Quarter
- Senior linebacker Colton Jumper sacked Florida quarterback Felipe Franks for a nine-yard loss on 3rd-and-8 two minutes into the second quarter. It marked the first sack of Jumper's career in his 29th career game and was the first sack by a Vols linebacker since Darrin Kirkland made a sack versus Virginia Tech on Sept. 10, 2016.
- Jumper's play was the first sack of the game by either team and marked the second sack of the season by the Vols.
- Redshirt sophomore Darrell Taylor also recorded the first sack of his career for a 15-yard loss with just under nine minutes remaining in the first half.
Offensive Highlights
- FIRST HALF: Junior quarterback Quinten Dormady was 10-for-18 for 83 yards and one interception in the first half. John Kelly had eight carries for 45 yards and two catches for 12 yards. Brandon Johnson had three catches for 11 yards and Marquez Callaway had two grabs for 24 yards.
- With 23 seconds remaining before halftime, John Kelly ran behind his left guard for a 38-yard run to put the Vols within field goal range. The 38-yard run was the second-longest of Kelly's career and his longest since a career-long 73-yard run against Tennessee Tech on Nov. 5, 2016.
- With 12:55 remaining in the third quarter, Nigel Warrior forced a fumble after a 21-yard run by Lamical Perine and Darrell Taylor recovered it at the Florida 49. It was the first forced fumble of Warrior's career.
- After picking up just 10 yards on his first eight carries, John Kelly rushed for 131 yards on final 11 carries of the game.
- With nine minutes to go in the third quarter, Quinten Dormady completed a 22-pass to Marquez Callaway on 3rd-and-19 to give the Vols 1st-and-goal at the one.
- With under 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter, John Kelly took a RB screen to the right 29 yards down the field to give UT a 1st-and-10 from the UF 31. The 29-yard gain marked the longest reception of Kelly's career.
- With 8:36 left in the fourth quarter, John Kelly ran for a 34-yard touchdown to bring the Vols to within 13-10 after an extra point. Kelly passed the 100-yard mark on the carry, giving him his fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career and his second of the season.
Defensive Highlights
- FIRST HALF: The Vols limited Florida to 141 yards in the first half. Rashaan Gaulden and Quart'e Sapp each had a team-high five tackles in the first half.
- The Gators' second possession came after an interception and the Tennessee defense limited UF to two yards and three-and-out.
- Tennessee's defense forced another three-and-out midway through the third quarter. The Gators took over at their own one and the Vols limited UF to just five yards on three play.
- With 10:45 remaining in the fourth quarter, Justin Martin chased down Florida's Malik Davis following a 72-yard run and forced a fumble at the two-yard line that rolled out of the back of end zone, giving the ball back to UT.
Special Teams Highlights
- Florida took a 3-0 lead with 7:39 left in the first half when UF placekicker Eddie Pineiro made a 27-yard field goal, capping a 15-play, 65-yard drive. Entering the game, opposing kickers were 0-for-3 on field goal attempts against Tennessee.
- Tennessee freshman Brent Cimaglia made a 51-yard field goal with 2:58 left in the first half to cap a 12-play, 42-yard Vols drive and pull UT to within 6-3. It was Cimaglia's first career field goal attempt and the 51-yarder was the longest made by a Vol since Michael Palardy hit a 51-yarder against Missouri on Nov. 2, 2013.
- Cimaglia's kick is tied as the longest field goal ever made by a Vol at Florida. James Wilhoit also was true from 51 yards during UT's 24-10 victory at Florida on Sept. 20, 2003 (like Cimaglia, Wilhoit also was a true freshman).
- With 5:50 left in the third quarter, Marquez Callaway returned a 59-yard punt by Townsend 29 yards to the UF 36.
Upon Further Review
- With 10:45 remaining in the fourth quarter, Justin Martin chased down Florida's Malik Davis following a 72-yard run and forced a fumble at the two-yard line that rolled out of the back of end zone, giving the ball back to UT. The play was initially ruled a touchdown. After review it was ruled a fumble.
- Tennessee is now 4-2 on official video reviews on the season.
