Smokey, Cheer Squad Post Top-10 Finishes at Nationals

Tennessee's dance team competes for a sixth national championship Sunday night
ORLANDO, Fla. – The University of Tennessee cheer team and Smokey the mascot each turned in top-10 performances this weekend at the UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships at the Walt Disney World Resort.
The five-time national champion dance team advanced through the semifinals of the Dance National Championship Saturday night and will compete for another national title Sunday evening.
A three-minute cheer team performance Friday at the inaugural UCA College Nationals Game Day Competition—which included Rocky Top, the V-O-L-S spell out, and more—showcased to the crowd at ESPN Wide World of Sports Arena the spirit regularly displayed not only at Tennessee football games, but at volleyball and men's and women's basketball games as well as other Olympic sports events.
The cheer team's routine was judged as a perfect 10 in most categories Friday before a technical difficulty caused a deduction that ultimately led to an eighth-place finish.
Smokey, a perennial powerhouse in the world of collegiate mascots, placed 10th nationally, in the mascot competition.
