Spots Limited in Dave Serrano Golf Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Dave Serrano Golf Classic, set for Friday, October 10, 2014 at Willow Creek Golf Club, is off to a fast start, with limited spots remaining for the inaugural charity tournament benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee. After reaching an original goal of 25 foursomes, Willow Creek has now opened two additional foursome spots for the tournament. Presented by Regal Entertainment Group, the celebrity tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8:45 a.m., followed by lunch, prizes and a brief program.
Each participant in the event will receive an engraved Dave Serrano Golf Classic bat, as well as a UT Baseball dry-fit shirt. Registrants will also have the opportunity to win one of several autographed items including authentic Peyton Manning, Yan Gomes, R.A. Dickey and Todd Helton jerseys. Additionally, any golfer who makes a hole-in-one on Hole 6 at Willow Creek Golf Club during the tournament will automatically win $50,000.

It's a chance to meet this year's baseball team and other past Vols while helping to make a big impact for Big Brothers Big Sisters."
All proceeds of the tournament go to support one-to-one mentoring programs for children through the Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee organization. The Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring model is an evidence-based prevention and intervention strategy that is helping to improve the odds for children who face adversity. Through the high-quality mentoring, children are achieving educational success while avoiding risky behaviors.

"Our hope is that this event will increase the awareness of our mentoring programs and provide us with opportunities to recruit individuals who can be matched with children in our community as positive role models."

Tournament teams are comprised of four-person groups with fees set at $1,000 per foursome or $275 per individual golfer. The tournament is set to include 25 foursomes groups.

About Tennessee Baseball Head Coach Dave Serrano
One of just 11 coaches in NCAA history to take two different programs to the College World Series, Tennessee head coach Dave Serrano is one of the most successful and widely respected coaches in college baseball. His first three seasons at the helm of the UT program have been met with a renewed sense of excitement and optimism as he has worked tirelessly to return the Volunteers to a spot among the nation's elite.
Previously the head coach at UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton, Serrano has the Volunteers moving in the right direction, leading them to the SEC Tournament for the first time since 2007 this season. Fans have shown their support for Serrano and the Vols as well, with two of the program's top three single-season attendance records have already been set during his short tenure at Rocky Top. A two-time coach with the USA Baseball National Team, including serving as manager of the squad in 2012, Serrano has coached over 160 players who have gone on to be drafted, including 25 who have played in the Major Leagues.
Serrano and his wife, Tracy, are proud and active members of the Knoxville community and have three sons, Kyle, Zachary and Parker.
