Vols In 9th Amid Tough Conditions

Second Round Stats
SKOKIE, Ill. -- On a day filled with rain and heavy gusts of wind, the Tennessee men's golf team was able to fight its way to 9th-place after the first two rounds at the 18th Windon Memorial Classic on Sunday.
Sophomore Jack Smith and junior Chad Merzbacher led the way for the Vols. Smith fired an opening round 69 (-1) which included four birdies and three bogeys. He followed it up with a second round 72 (+2). Merzbacher was the exact opposite of Smith, carding an opening round 72 (+2), followed by a second round 69 (-1). Both are in a tie for 11th place with a score of 1-over par.
The Volunteers saw an impressive opening round 70 (E) from freshman Lorenzo Scalise. The Italy native's first round included four birdies and four bogeys. Scalise posted a second round 74 (+4) to find himself in a tie for 31st place at 4-over par.
Senior Thomas Dunne was consistent on Sunday, shooting 5-over par (75) in both the first and second rounds. Dunne's day included five birdies, but also saw its share of bogeys and one double bogey. He is currently in a tie for 68th place at 10-over par.
Wrapping up the scoring for the Volunteers was junior Michael Nagy. The Michigan native posted a first round 75 (+5), followed by a second round 77 (+7). Nagy is currently in a tie for 72nd place at 12-over par.
Minnesota's Jose Mendez is the individual leader after round two. Mendez carded scores of 68 (-2) and 67 (-3) to capture the lead at 5-under par.
With tournament leader California sitting at 4-over par, Tennessee will have their work cut out for them at Evanston Golf Club on Monday.
On Monday, Tennessee will start their final round of the 18th Windon Memorial at 9:00 a.m. ET from the 1st tee. Tennessee will be paired with Lamar and Purdue.
