THE SEASON OPENER
- The Tennessee swimming and diving program makes its first collegiate trip as a combined men's and women's program this weekend for a fall training camp and dual meet against UNC Wilmington. Friday's meet kicks off at 3 p.m.
- Tennessee and UNCW will also face off in an open water meet Saturday.
- The Lady Vols also opened last season season at UNCW, earning a 194-105 road victory against the Seahawks. In that meet, Kelsey Floyd (1000 free), Kate McNeilis (100 back), Lindsay Gendron (100 free) and Jenny Connolly (200 fly) all set pool records in their respective events.
- The Lady Vols are coming off a banner 2011-12 season, finishing 6-1 in dual meets (3-1 in the SEC), earning second place at the SEC Championships and taking seventh at the NCAA Championships.
- The Vols were 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC in dual meets. The team placed fourth at the SECs and were 22nd at NCAAs.
- Matt Kredich, who coached the Lady Vols for seven seasons, enters his first as head coach of both programs. He and diving coach Dave Parrington are the only returning members of the swimming staff. Four assistant coaches -- Tyler Fenwick (associate coach), Lance Asti, Ashley Jahn, Bret Lundgaard -- will be making their full-time Tennessee debuts.
- Tennessee has a number of freshmen who could be competing in their first collegiate meets. There are 26 freshmen listed on the Tennessee roster (15 men, 11 women).
- It was a busy summer for Tennessee in the pool. Seventeen current and former swimmers competed this summer at the US Olympic Trials, as well as three divers.
