The field consists of 15 teams and includes three programs that are ranked in the top-25 by Golfweek.
Nine players slated to be in the tournament are ranked in Golfweek's top-75, including Coastal Carolina's Alfredo Ruiz (9), Kent State's Ian Holt (12) and Chase Johnson (43), Virginia's Derek Bard (28), Jimmy Stanger (45) and Thomas Walsh (75), Virginia Tech's Sarit Suwannarut (31), Missouri's Euan Walker (32) and UNCW's Thomas Eldridge (52).

Heading the Volunteers' lineup, Scalise brings two years of experience to the 2016-17 squad. As a freshman, he tied for 56th place in the tournament with a 54-hole score of 149 (cut to two rounds due to weather). Scalise then recorded a career-low round of 65 (-7) in the second round of the 2015 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate en route to a 12th place tie.
The freshman trio making up the middle of the lineup will see the Blackthorn course for the first time. However, Garrison, Nevin-Wharton and Wolcott boast a combined average of 73.60 through two tournaments (15 rounds).
Tennessee sophomore Mattner is making his first appearance of the season in the event. He placed 65th in the tournament last year with an overall score of 227.
Competing as an individual in the tournament, Smith looks to improve upon his 21st place finish (216, E) at the 2015 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate. As an underclassman, he recorded scores of 150 (2014 tournament cut to two rounds due to weather) and 218 to tie for 63rd and 34th place, respectively.
Tournament Format
The Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate will be played on Friday, Oct. 14 through Sunday, Oct. 16 in an 18-18-18 format.
The three-day tournament gets underway Friday morning at 8:30 a.m., while Saturday's second round will also start at 8:30 a.m., with each team beginning on No. 1.
Sunday's tee times and pairings will be released at the conclusion of Saturday's round.
Tournament History
- Penn State -- who won the 2015 Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate with a team score of 20-under-par 844 -- returns to defend its title.
- Seven former Bank of Tennessee team champions are in the 2016 field -- Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Missouri, Kent State, Tennessee, and Coastal Carolina.
- The Vols have claimed the tournament title three times (2004, 2006 and 2009). Tennessee's 10-under 854 in 2004 serves as the team's best finish in relation to par in the tournament.
- Chris Paisley (2007), Philip Pettitt (2004) and Ian Parnaby (2002) each earned medalist honors at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate while competing for the Big Orange.
- Facing a field of 15 teams in 2015, the Vols took third place with a score of 861 (-3).
